    Canon Character Section:
    History: Wikia

    Personality:
Maggie is a survivor, the kind of person that finds a way to make it through no matter what situation she is in and yet it is what she has survived over the years that has hardened this woman. She's not overly trusting of others, using a combination of sarcasm and a hard demeanor to keep people at arms length. She's reluctant to let anyone get too close and is likely to push before ever allowing them to see the real Maggie as we see her do with Hal. There is that softer side and we see that in the way she supports Sarah through her pregnancy, even if she claims she's only hanging around the woman to get seconds at meal time, as if Maggie doesn't want anyone to see the good in her.

Maggie's sordid past, though something she tries not to discuss continues to drag her down. She often feels that she isn't good enough, doesn't fit in and though the alien attacks theoretically allowed her to reinvent herself, Maggie acts as though she will always be the drug addict who had a child in prison. This part of her shouldn't define her but at least in her mind, it does. It is the very thing that she cannot escape and though it may have been a result of a series of bad decisions and not because she is by nature, a bad person, the guilt that she carries continues to drag her down. One could argue that it was why she was able to get through the three months she spent with Pope's Gang; Because in her mind she didn't deserve any better than what they did to her.

Maggie is however somebody who wants to make up for her mistakes and it shows in all that she does to support the 2nd Mass. Her determination to do the right thing by these people, threatening Pope on more than one occasion that she will take him down if he tries to cross them shows that whether she realises it or not, she has not given up hope of having a better life, nor is she as terrible as she believes she is.

She herself admits that she doesn't know when to quit, pushing peoples buttons or broaching subjects that are better left ignored. It never seems like she does it to intentionally hurt the other person but is perhaps just another example of how Maggie keeps people at arms length, though she has proven her ability to recognize her faults and will attempt to apologize if she believes one is owing.

Maggie likes to be self-sufficient and has proven an ability to take care of herself when it comes to wielding a gun or dealing with the more unsavory people of the world, (Pope case in point). She has a great deal of empathy towards others, something that isn't readily apparent but can be seen in the way she helps Anne Glass learn to fire a gun so that she never has to feel vulnerable again, and in the way she tries to get Hal to ease up on Ben on numerous occasions. When she sees herself in other people she feels the need to help them in the ways that nobody ever helped her before.

From seeing how Maggie tries to look out for Jimmy at the end of Season 1, how she tries to shield Lourdes from what happened to her during her time with Pope's and and how she looks out for Ben you get the impression that she has a protective streak, especially when it comes to those who are younger. She will attempt to put them at ease and even champion them when she sees others are attacking them or putting them down. This protectiveness may be subtle but it is a recurring scene with Maggie throughout seasons one and two.

Though you wouldn't say that she has completely given up on life, couldn't say that given the choices she has made in recent months (joining the 2nd Mass, fighting alongside them, even allowing them to get close to her), she herself says that after beating the cancer that nearly took her life when she was sixteen, she never completely recovered. She turned to drugs after she went into remission which suggests she's trying to rediscover that spark even if her means aren't the best kind. Maggie is clearly somebody who wants to live, not just get by but to enjoy life again, she just doesn't seem to know how to do it.

Maggie is the kind of person who would rather ignore, avoid or even downright run away when faced with an awkward or uncomfortable situation. When avoiding Hal after he confesses his feelings for her fails, she admits to putting in for a transfer to another unit, as if taking herself out of Hal's life will make the so called problem go away. This incident also suggests that Maggie is not one to follow her heart, but make decisions based on what she thinks is best. It becomes apparent later that she does have feelings for Hal but is willing to ignore them because she logically believes it's best they don't get involved, or perhaps as Karen points out, because Maggie believes she isn't good enough for him.

In dealing with her in a one on one situations, she comes across not only as standoffish but in the right circumstances, downright aggressive. She projects an air of "don't fuck with me", not only to keep people emotionally distant but to make sure they know she is not a weak and willing victim. She doesn't appear to be taken in by arrogance, (once again, her dealings with Pope) and you get the impression from how she interacts with Hal that she cannot be so easily charmed. She does however warm up to people over time but will still fall back on sarcasm and light and easy banter in order to avoid more serious topics coming up.

The two most significant canon relationships couldn't be more different if they tried. First we have the antagonistic relationship between Maggie and Pope. Though little has been revealed about the three months Maggie spent with Pope's gang, we know that he saved her and are given the impression that the life Maggie led back then is very different to the one she is leading now. Maggie is somebody who isn't afraid to call Pope on his bullshit and yet, she won't turn him in either, even though there are times when she could have gotten him in trouble. You get the idea that despite an intense dislike, she feels that she owes him in some way, even if she thinks he is little more than a degenerate asshole. It could be argued that Pope reminds Maggie too much of the person that she used to be, which is in part why she can't stand him. For whatever reason, Pope knows a great deal about the life that Maggie led before the aliens attacked.

On the flip side we have Maggie's growing relationship with Hal. You couldn't go so far as to say that she is in love with him yet but Hal appears to be the first person who is able to break down the walls she has surrounding her. She seems to adopt an almost youthful persona around him and is more honest with him than she is with other people, even if she tries to lie to him at first. Hal is good for Maggie as he isn't afraid to call her on her lies and he forces her to confront the very parts of herself that she tries to keep hidden.

Coming to Teleios at this point in her journey will be both positive and a struggle for Maggie. On one hand, she would be far safer here but she found a purpose when she became a part of the Second Mass. People needed her and she began to realize that she needed people. Her level of debt will force her to confront the poor choices she made in the past and could make her feel that despite Hal's encouraging words, that she's no longer that Maggie, nothing anyone says or does can erase her history. At the same time, Teleios will give her an opportunity to make amends for those mistakes. She'll be able to see her debt lower and might even be able to convince herself that this is her chance for a true second chance.

Having Hal with her will make a big difference to whether she sinks or floats. Though their relationship is still in its very early days, they have had each others backs for a number of months now and having somebody with her that she trusts, that will support her and who will need her support will give her a reason to soldier on. At the same time, she will not want him to know how high her debt is, will likely attempt to conceal it from him and that could in turn cause more problems for them down the line.

    Powers/Abilties:

Maggie is skilled with the use of various projectile weapons including assault rifles, handguns and crossbows.

Appearance: Maggie has (at least) three tattoos. Taking up her whole back is a giant Phoenix rising (In color), on her right sleeve she has Kali (in black) and on her left upper sleeve is a Black Dahlia (Flower). Standing at 5ft4 1/2 she may not be particularly tall, but she's hardly a slight or cowering figure. Maggie has long, naturally golden blond, wavy hair that falls down to the middle of her back and is rarely pulled back from her face. She has a leather biker jacket that she is almost never seen without and prefers jeans and tank tops. This isn't the kind of woman you are likely to see in a dress. Her style seems to suggest a preference for comfort and durability.

Dreaming. Even now as the haze of sleep was lifting from Maggie, a part of her felt sure that she was still asleep, still dreaming, trying desperately to cling to this moment for as long as she could, to keep the dream in motion even though any second now she’d be awake once more and would have nothing but the stretch of road to Charleston, uncomfortable and tense silences and Pope’s bullshit to contend with for the rest of the drive.

She stretched out, clean sheets against her bare skin such a foreign idea these days that a little hum of contentment vibrated in her chest and a smile touched her lips as her body ached in a way that spoke of a night of sex and satisfaction. Still a dream, still so sure of this given all that she had been through this last year. It had been a very long time since sex had left her feeling sated as opposed to guilty or even dirty. Sex was usually little more than a quick thrill, something to make her feel alive for as long as it lasted. She was usually gone before the condom could even come off. This, this wasn’t real. This felt far too good to be real.

The blond in the bed rolled over, fingers running back through her hair and eyes opened, her mind a blank as she stared up at an ornate ceiling. Panic didn’t have time to set in, not yet. This wasn’t real this… She sat up too quickly, the room spinning as the blood rushed to her head, the sheet falling aware from her body as wide eyes now darted around the room, struggling to make sense of her surroundings as she blinked back sleep. She was in a car, they were headed to Charleston… then what? She remembered lights, blinding lights, Pope yelling from the back of the ute and then, everything went hazy.

“The hell…” Her heart was racing now and she clambered off the bed, less concerned by her state of nudity than she was about trying to piece together the missing pieces of her memory. None of this gelled with anything she knew about the Skitters and the Fish-heads. This was the kinda scene you saw in a movie. If Tom were here he’d make some speech about how they were trying to make them feel comfortable by giving them familiar surroundings, something earthly. He’d have some historical anecdote to put it all into context. If this place was meant to put her at ease, they’d clearly fucked up cause it was having the opposite result.

Her eyes fell on the veritable armoury of weapons stacked beside a pile of clothes, each one familiar, still stowed in their holster and the Colt Carbine resting against the dresser. Her eyes narrowed as she pulled the Nickel out, the cold metal against her skin providing a strange sense of comfort as she checked the chamber, more confusion mounting to see that it was loaded. This seemed sloppy for the Fish-heads, leaving her still armed and a voice in the back of her head was starting to whisper to her, telling her that she was wrong, that this was so much bigger than an ambush and kidnapping. If this were the aliens, she wouldn’t be in some luxurious room, she’d be dead. She was no Tom Mason. She wasn’t important enough to keep alive.

Maggie turned so that she was facing the closed door to the room, setting her colt down and grabbing her clothes, hastily pulling them on whilst making sure that nothing and nobody took her by surprise. She needed information and she needed to get out of here but even as her mind moved at a hundred miles an hour, she knew she had to be prepared, knew that wandering around naked left her more vulnerable than she already was simply by being human. The thin and destructible clothes would provide her very little protection but the layers against her skin felt like her armour, like she was saddled up and ready for anything, almost like a gladiator preparing for battle.

“Hal?” The gun back in her hand, once more providing comfort as she slowly began to make her way around the room, back against the wall, edging towards the wide open windows. “Pope?” Though that second name was said with a little less enthusiasm. When it came to matters of life, death and kidnapping, he wasn’t exactly the first person you wanted to watch your back, even if he had once saved her ass. Hindsight being what it was, she wasn’t sure that had been worth the experience of having to now deal with him on a daily basis.

She held her breath as she chanced a look outside the window, taking a moment to process what she had just seen as she pulls back, shaking her head in disbelief as she forces herself to try again. This time she allowed her eyes to roam over the tops of buildings, the smell of salt in the air, the far off sound of waves crashing. In case she’d had any doubts before now, Maggie knew now that she was a very long way from South Carolina.

She heard the door handle start to turn and responded on instinct, racing away from the window and preparing to jump whoever came through as she listened to the footsteps grow louder as the person neared. Whoever this was, whatever this was, she was not going to take this laying down. They really should have confiscated her weapons, she thought as she heard the click of a bullet sliding into the chamber.
